Well service operator
Well service operators work on wells that are already drilled, running the service rigs and equipment used for workovers, completions, pump changes, and abandonment. Every job is different because the well's condition, pressure, and history drive the programme. Crews travel between sites, work outdoors in all conditions, and rig up and down frequently.

What the work involves
- Rig up and rig down service equipment and pressure-control gear at the wellsite.
- Pull and run tubing, rods, and downhole pumps, and change out wellhead components.
- Operate pumps, tanks, and circulating equipment during fluid, cement, or stimulation work.
- Monitor well pressures and fluid returns and respond to changes under well control procedures.
- Inspect slings, tongs, elevators, and pressure equipment before and during operations.
- Complete job tickets, fluid records, and daily reports for the operator and regulator.

- Starting as a floorhand or service crew member and progressing through on-the-job training.
- A college certificate in petroleum or well servicing technology used as an entry qualification.
- Employer training combined with well control, hydrogen sulphide, and rigging certification.
