Meter technicians install, exchange, test, and repair the electricity, gas, or water meters a utility bills from. Accuracy is the whole point of the role, so calibration records, seals, and correct wiring or pipework matter more than speed. Most of the day is spent travelling between customer premises and working alone.

- Test and calibrate meters against reference standards and record the results.
- Investigate suspected faulty registration, wiring errors, or tampering and report findings.
- Programme and commission smart meters and confirm they report to the head-end system.
- Verify current transformer and voltage connections on larger commercial metering installations.
- Complete work orders, asset records, and seal numbers so billing data stays traceable.
