Power system operators run the transmission or distribution network from a control centre, balancing generation against load and keeping voltage and frequency inside operating limits. They authorise switching, direct field crews during outages, and coordinate restoration after faults. Decisions are made under time pressure with consequences that reach well beyond the control room.
