Pipeline maintenance technician
Pipeline maintenance technicians look after the physical pipeline system in the field: valves, pump and compressor stations, cathodic protection, and the right-of-way itself. Work is spread along a route rather than concentrated on one site, so days involve a lot of driving and independent decision-making. Integrity findings feed directly into repair and inspection programmes.

What the work involves
- Patrol and inspect the right-of-way for encroachment, exposure, erosion, or leak signs.
- Take cathodic protection readings and adjust rectifiers to keep the pipe protected.
- Service valves, actuators, pumps, and station equipment on a maintenance schedule.
- Support inline inspection runs, dig programmes, and repair sleeve or recoat work.
- Locate and mark buried pipe for third parties before excavation near the line.
- Record inspection results, defects, and completed work in the integrity management system.
