Drywall installers build interior partitions and ceilings from metal or timber framing and board, and finishers tape, fill, and sand the joints so the surface is ready for decoration. Fire and acoustic ratings depend on the details being built exactly as specified, not just on the board going up. The work is repetitive, dusty, and hard on shoulders and knees.

What the work involves
- Set out partition and ceiling lines from drawings and install track, studs, and framing.
- Cut and fix plasterboard to framing at the specified layer, fixing pattern, and orientation.
- Form openings, bulkheads, and service penetrations and install fire-stopping and acoustic detailing.
- Tape, bed, and coat joints and corners and apply successive fill coats.
- Sand joints and skim or level surfaces to the required finish grade.
- Protect finished areas, manage dust extraction, and clean tools and mixing equipment.
