Architects design buildings and the spaces around them, balancing what a client wants against budget, site constraints, building codes, and how people will actually use the place. The role runs from early sketches and concept models through to detailed technical drawings and site visits during construction. Much of the week is drawing, modelling, and writing, punctuated by client meetings and consultant coordination.

Develop concept designs and options in response to a client brief, site survey, and planning constraints.
Produce drawings, models, and specifications in CAD and BIM software for approval and tender.
Check designs against building codes, accessibility rules, fire requirements, and planning conditions.
Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and electrical consultants so the disciplines resolve into one design.
Present options to clients, planning authorities, and community groups and revise the design after feedback.
Visit sites during construction to answer contractor queries and confirm the work matches the drawings.
