Machine operator
Machine operators set up, load, run, and monitor production machinery that cuts, forms, fills, or finishes material. Much of the skill is in noticing when a machine drifts off settings and correcting it before a batch goes wrong. Operators usually run a defined set of machines and hand anything beyond routine adjustment to maintenance.

What the work involves
- Set machine parameters from a job sheet and run a first-off sample for approval
- Load material, tooling, or consumables and clear jams and misfeeds
- Monitor gauges, counters, and output quality across the run and adjust within set limits
- Carry out operator-level cleaning, lubrication, and pre-start safety checks
- Log output, downtime reasons, and scrap against the batch record
- Escalate breakdowns, tooling wear, or repeated quality faults to maintenance or the supervisor
