Industrial maintenance technician
Industrial maintenance technicians keep production machinery working, covering planned servicing as well as breakdown repair. The work spans mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and often electrical and control systems, so diagnosis is a core skill. Breakdown work can be pressured, because the line is usually stopped while the fault is found.

What the work involves
- Carry out planned maintenance routines on machinery, drives, and ancillary equipment
- Diagnose breakdowns across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems
- Strip, repair, replace, and align components, then test and hand equipment back to production
- Apply isolation, lock-out, and permit procedures before working on energised or stored-energy plant
- Record work done, parts used, and fault causes in the maintenance management system
- Support installations, modifications, and commissioning of new equipment
