Pharmacy technicians prepare and supply medicines, manage stock, and handle much of the operational work of a dispensary under a pharmacist's supervision. In some jurisdictions the role is regulated with its own accountable scope, including final release checks. Accuracy matters more than speed, and the consequences of a slip are clinical rather than clerical.

What the work involves
- Receive prescriptions, enter them accurately, and select and label the correct product.
- Count, measure, or reconstitute medicines and prepare them for supply.
- Manage stock rotation, expiry checks, cold-chain storage, and controlled-drug records.
- Process insurance or benefit claims and resolve rejected submissions.
- Refer clinical questions from patients to the pharmacist rather than answering them directly.
- Prepare compounded or aseptic products where trained and permitted to do so.
