What the work involves
- Model parts and assemblies in CAD and issue dimensioned, toleranced drawings for manufacture.
- Run hand calculations and simulations for stress, motion, heat transfer, or fluid flow.
- Select materials, fasteners, bearings, and off-the-shelf components against design requirements.
- Build and instrument prototypes, then compare measured behaviour with predicted behaviour.
- Review designs with manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams and revise tolerances or geometry.
- Write design reports, change notes, and technical specifications for the engineering record.
