Forestry technicians carry out the field work behind forest management: measuring stands, laying out cut blocks, checking regeneration, and inspecting operations against the plan. Days are spent walking difficult ground in all weather with GPS, tablets, and measuring tools. Office time goes on mapping, data entry, and reporting.

What the work involves
Run cruise plots and measure tree diameter, height, species mix, and stand condition.
Lay out and mark boundaries, roads, riparian buffers, and harvest blocks.
Inspect planting, thinning, and harvesting operations against the prescription and permit conditions.
Survey regeneration and free-growing status and record results in the forest inventory system.
Monitor for insect, disease, and fire hazard and report findings to the forester.
