Chaplain
Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional care in hospitals, prisons, universities, the military, and workplaces, to people of any faith or none. Much of the work is presence at bad moments (serious diagnoses, deaths, crises) alongside rituals, memorials, and support for staff. Chaplains normally hold a faith-community endorsement while serving an institution's whole population.

What the work involves
Visit patients, residents, inmates, students, or staff and offer spiritual and emotional support
Sit with people and families through crisis, dying, bereavement, and difficult decisions
Lead or arrange services, prayers, rituals, and memorials appropriate to the person's tradition
Advise institutional teams on religious, cultural, and ethical considerations in care
Refer people to counselling, social work, or community faith resources
Record visits as required and take part in team rounds, ethics discussions, and on-call rotas
