Occupation

Locomotive engineer

Locomotive engineers operate trains, controlling power and braking over long distances while observing signals, speed limits, and track conditions. The work requires sustained concentration on routes that must be known from memory, and full accountability for a heavy vehicle that cannot stop quickly. Rosters cover nights, weekends, and holidays, and route knowledge must be kept current.
