From search to study set
Type a topic into search and open it. Novus Learn retrieves the current Wikipedia revision and turns it into a set of study views you can move between: an overview, a quick summary, structured notes, flashcards, a quiz, a visual canvas, and a guided lesson.
Each view is a different way into the same source-grounded material, so you can read, test yourself, or see the connections — whatever fits how you study. Nothing is regenerated as you switch: the views are different projections of one extracted structure, which is why a claim you check in the summary is the same claim backing a card three tabs over.
Pick a depth before you start
The same article can be studied at five levels, and the choice changes what you get rather than just how much. A quick overview keeps only the highest-importance claims. Beginner and standard widen the set. Advanced keeps the detail most tools trim away, and exam review leans hardest on retrieval practice.
This matters more than it sounds. Most people fail a topic not because they picked the wrong tool but because they started at the wrong altitude — grinding definitions when they needed the shape of the thing, or skimming the shape when they needed the detail. Choosing the level up front is the cheapest correction available.
What a topic actually produces
The generated set is bounded on purpose, so a long article doesn't turn into an unusable wall of material:
- Up to eight key points, ordered by how important the claim behind each one is.
- Up to eight summary sections, each built from one part of the source.
- Up to twenty-four flashcards across five card types.
- Up to ten quiz questions, with distractors drawn from real entities of the same kind.
- A knowledge canvas of the concepts and their labelled relationships.
- A guided lesson that walks the material as scenes rather than as a list.
Test yourself with spaced repetition
The flashcards use a compact SM-2-style schedule that stays on your device. Rate a card again, hard, good, or easy and the interval moves accordingly: “again” brings the card back roughly ten minutes later in the same session, while a run of “good” ratings pushes it out across days and then weeks, up to a year.
Card ordering follows the same logic — unseen cards first, then whatever is most overdue, then the rest by how soon it is due. No review event is ever sent anywhere; the schedule lives in the local study-progress record alongside the rest of your library.
When you want the deck elsewhere, you can download it as CSV for Anki or Quizlet, or as a printable answer key. The CSV is written properly — quoted fields, a byte-order mark so spreadsheets read the encoding, and leading formula characters neutralised so a card starting with an equals sign can't execute in Excel.
See how ideas connect
The knowledge canvas lays out the topic's concepts and their relationships as an interactive map. Click a node to read what it means and jump to the source sentence behind it. Relationships are typed — is a kind of, is part of, causes, comes before, is an input of — so the map tells you something more specific than “these two words appeared near each other”.
For dense topics there's a minimap to keep your bearings, and every node stays clickable through to its evidence. The canvas is a reading tool, not decoration: if a connection is on the map, some claim in the source put it there.
A routine that works
The views are useful individually, but they were designed to be used in an order. What we'd suggest for an unfamiliar topic: open the canvas first and spend a minute on the shape of it — what the central concepts are and how many there are. Then read the summary, which will now land against a structure instead of arriving cold.
Only then go to the flashcards, and rate honestly rather than generously; the schedule is only as useful as the ratings you feed it. Finish with the quiz, and treat any question you get wrong as a pointer rather than a score — follow its evidence link back into the source and read the surrounding paragraph, not just the sentence.
The whole loop takes about twenty minutes on a medium-sized article, and the reason it's worth the structure is that it front-loads orientation. Most of the time lost in studying something new is spent not knowing which details matter yet.
Where a topic will disappoint you
Short or heavily-listed articles make thin study sets. If the source states few direct claims, there is little to build definitions or relationship cards from, and Novus Learn will show you a smaller set rather than pad it. Stub articles are the clearest case — there is genuinely not much there, and the tool says so instead of pretending otherwise.
Wikipedia's own coverage is the other limit worth naming. A topic that is contested, recent, or thinly sourced upstream will produce study material with exactly those weaknesses, because the material is the article. That is a good reason to keep the evidence links in view while you work, and to treat the canvas as a map of what one article claims rather than a map of the subject itself.
