Use puzzles as practice rather than entertainment
Pick a category and a level, solve by method, and read the explanation anyway.

1. Pick a category on purpose
Copy linkThe categories cover logic grids, number sequences, spatial and visual, word and letter, code and cipher, deduction, lateral thinking and maths. Choosing the one you are worst at is more useful than choosing the one you enjoy, though doing both is how people keep going.
2. Start below your level
Copy linkEvery puzzle sits on a published one-to-five difficulty ladder. Starting at level two on an unfamiliar category teaches you the notation before the difficulty, which is the part people skip and then blame on the puzzle.
3. Read the explanation even when you were right
Copy linkEvery puzzle carries a worked explanation of the method. A puzzle solved by luck and a puzzle solved by method are identical on a score sheet and worth completely different amounts, and the explanation is the only place that difference is visible.
4. Follow a category into a skill
Copy linkCategories are mapped to the same constructs the aptitude catalogue uses, so a category you enjoy is a light way into a skill you are about to study seriously. The skill lesson behind it is considerably more systematic than the puzzles are.
5. Nothing is timed or ranked
