Exploring and filtering the catalogue

Explore is one filtered view over every published area of the site: aptitude suites, skill lessons, cognitive skill labs, puzzles, coding lessons, career families and occupations, and the editorial pages. It is generated from the same registries that build the sitemap, so nothing can appear in Explore that is not a real page, and nothing published can be missing from it.

• Kind narrows to a type of thing: a suite, a lesson, a puzzle set, a career family.
• Activity narrows by what you would do: read, practise, take a test, build something.
• Difficulty and duration narrow by how demanding and how long an item is.
• Career family narrows learning material to the kind of work it supports.
• Progress narrows by what this browser already knows you have started.

Every filter you set is written into the address bar, so a filtered view is a link you can bookmark or send to someone. Opening that link reproduces the same filtered catalogue for them, with one exception: the progress filter reads this browser's local storage, so it cannot mean anything on somebody else's device.

Explore narrows a large catalogue. The Tool map does the opposite: it lists every destination on one page, grouped into ten areas, with a count beside each row read from the registry that owns it. Use it to find out what exists rather than to filter what you already know exists.

The Featured page deliberately publishes nothing. A curated list of topics would have to be assembled by hand and kept fresh by hand, and until a topic has passed source, attribution and coverage checks there is no honest basis for promoting it. Rather than fill the page with fixtures dressed up as editorial picks, it explains the gap and points you at live search.
