- Research legislation, regulations, and decided cases that bear on a matter
- Draft pleadings, contracts, opinions, and correspondence
- Negotiate settlements and explain the risks attached to each option
- Appear before courts or tribunals to argue a client's position
- Keep matter files, limitation dates, and client confidences in order
