Driving instructor

Teaches learner drivers the vehicle control, road rules, and hazard awareness needed to drive safely and pass a licensing test. Lessons take place in a dual-control vehicle and the instructor stays responsible for safety throughout. Many instructors are self-employed or work through a driving school.

  1. Plan a lesson sequence from basic control through to independent driving

  2. Give in-car instruction and take control when a situation becomes unsafe

  3. Teach road rules, hazard perception, and defensive driving techniques

  4. Give structured feedback after each lesson and set practice for between lessons

  5. Prepare learners for the theory and practical tests

  6. Book lessons, invoice clients, and maintain the training vehicle
