What a Real, Supervised Assessment Involves
If you need a result that means something to an institution, no website can give you one. The testing-options directory says what the alternatives are, classifies each, and endorses none of them.

The question behind the question
Copy linkPeople arrive at an online reasoning challenge for two quite different reasons. Most want to find out whether they enjoy the puzzles and how they do. A smaller number need a result that an institution will accept, for an application, an assessment of a learning difference, or a membership requirement.
For the second group the honest answer is that no website can help, including this one. The testing-options page exists so that answer comes with somewhere to go next rather than only a refusal.
What supervision actually adds
Copy linkA supervised assessment is not the same questions with somebody watching. It is a standardised instrument, administered under controlled conditions by a qualified administrator, scored against a representative norm sample, with published reliability and validity evidence and a written interpretation.
Each of those is doing work. The norm sample is what makes a percentile mean anything. The controlled conditions are what make two people's results comparable. The qualified interpreter is what stops a number becoming a conclusion it cannot support.
The interpretation step is the one people most often try to skip, and it is the one that carries most of the value. A result of this kind is a piece of evidence about performance under particular conditions on a particular day, and turning that into a statement about a person requires knowing what else was going on: sleep, language, anxiety, practice effects, and whether the instrument was designed for somebody in that situation at all. That judgement is the professional part of a professional assessment.
How the directory is organised
Copy link- Mensa practice and qualification information, from the organisation's own guidance.
- Professional assessment directories, as starting points for finding a qualified administrator.
- Research-informed online instruments, where the methodology is published.
- Educational online material, for learning the question types.
- Commercial online estimates, listed with what they are.
Listing is not recommending
Copy linkThe page carries a non-endorsement notice, and it is not boilerplate. An entry appears because it exists and a reader might reasonably want to know about it, not because it is vouched for. Each card carries a cost label, because whether something is free, paid, subscription-based or subject to professional fees is usually the first thing a reader needs and the last thing such sites state clearly.
It is an information directory rather than a catalogue of certified measures, and the difference is the whole point of publishing it.
Classification is doing more work here than a rating would. Telling somebody that an instrument is a commercial online estimate answers the question they actually have, which is what kind of thing am I looking at, in a way that four stars out of five does not. A rating invites you to pick the highest one; a classification invites you to decide whether this category of thing is what you need at all.
What the Novus score is, one more time
Copy linkThe Novus Reasoning Score is the share of questions you answered correctly on one form. It is never converted to an IQ, a percentile, or any claim about your intelligence, and it cannot be used for Mensa qualification, diagnosis, giftedness identification, educational placement, employment selection, disability applications, accommodations, legal matters or medical decisions.
Saying that repeatedly is not excessive caution. Online reasoning tests are one of the places where a number gets treated as a verdict fastest, and the disclaimer is worth less on the page nobody reads than in the sentence beside the score.
If somebody asks you for a result of this kind for a real decision, that request is itself worth questioning. No legitimate process asks a candidate to self-administer an unsupervised online reasoning test and report the number, because the result of such a process is uninterpretable by construction.
Questions worth asking any provider
Copy link- What instrument is this, and who publishes its norms?
- Who administers and interprets it, and what qualification do they hold?
- What will I receive: a number, a report, or a conversation?
- What is the total cost, including interpretation and any report fee?
- Will the result be accepted by the specific body I need it for?
Why the last question is the important one
Copy linkPeople often buy an assessment and then discover that the organisation they needed it for does not accept that instrument, that administrator, or a result of that age. The acceptance criteria sit with the receiving body, not with the provider, and the provider has no incentive to volunteer them.
So the order that saves money is backwards from the obvious one: ask the organisation what they accept, and only then go looking for somebody who can produce it. A directory can tell you what exists; only the body making the decision can tell you what counts.
If a listing is wrong
Copy linkExternal directories rot. Organisations change their guidance, providers close, and a link that was right a year ago sends somebody to a parked domain. If you find an entry that is stale or misleading, the contact page is the route, and a correction is more useful than a complaint.
