What the challenge is

The Reasoning Challenge is a set of nine original, manually authored puzzle forms that exercise pattern, logic, spatial, and quantitative reasoning. It is built for curiosity and practice, not certification: your result is a Novus Reasoning Score — the share of questions you answered correctly on that form — and it is deliberately never converted into an IQ number, a percentile, or any claim about your intelligence. It cannot be used for Mensa qualification, diagnosis, placement, employment, disability, or legal decisions.

Choosing a form

The nine forms sit in three families, and every form contains its own questions — no scored item appears in more than one form, so each is a fresh attempt:

• Quick Challenge (NRC-Q1, Q2, Q3): 18 scored questions in about 12 minutes. The fastest way to try the format.
• Full Challenge (NRC-F1, F2, F3): 54 scored questions in about 36 minutes, with broader mixed coverage of all four domains.
• Language-Light Challenge (NRC-L1, L2, L3):36 scored questions in about 24 minutes, emphasising matrix, sequence, spatial, and symbol-rule items with short prompts. Reduced reading load — but honestly, not “culture-free” or “language-free”; no test is.

During a session

Starting a form creates a session on the server with a fixed deadline for timed play. You answer multiple-choice questions one at a time, can mark any question for review, and can return to marked questions before submitting. Your in-progress attempt is saved in your browser’s IndexedDB, so an interruption on this device does not lose your work — though the timed deadline keeps counting.

Scoring and results

Answer keys never ship to your browser. When you submit, your answers are scored on the server against keys that exist only there, and you get back a correct count, a total, and a percentage. The result is stored on your device, the result page is private and excluded from search indexing, and you can delete any attempt from your device-local history whenever you like.

One more honest boundary: Career Discovery never reads this score. The career-matching engine actively strips reasoning-score inputs so a puzzle result can never influence career suggestions.
